 ยูจีน แม็กกินเนส คือหนุ่มวัย 23 ปีจากฟุลเวลครอส ย่านลิเวอร์พูล หนุ่มตากลมใส หน้าซื่อๆ ขี้เล่น แต่ผลงานของเขาแสดงให้เห็นถึงความคิดอันฉลาดเฉลียว ที่ถูกสื่อสารผ่านเนื้อเพลงแฝงข้อคิดดีๆ พร้อมอารมณ์ขัน ผสมผสานเข้ากับดนตรีร็อคแอนด์โรลอย่างโพสต์พังก์ เช่นเพลง Fonz แบบ The Pogues และ The Kinks และการโชว์ลีลาของคนรุ่นใหม่ที่มีหัวใจละเมียดละไมอย่างร็อครุ่นเก่า ในเพลงสวิงสนุกๆอย่าง Rings Around Rosa และซิงเกิลแรก Moscow State Circus แถมยังซึบซับถึงแก่น เสียจนฟังแยกไม่ออกว่านี่คืองานหนุ่มจากยุคสหัสวรรษใหม่

New Band Radar

Anssi 8000 & Maria Stereo

The most refreshingly original married couple in rock music today is here. Anssi 8000 and Maria Stereo live and make music in Sahalahti, which is a small town, even by Finnish standards. Maybe the rural environment has something to do with the timeless qualities in their music. You don’t bother with the current hipster trends when you live in the woods

The duo writes basically primitively simple and short rock tunes, but their sense of melody and dynamics are classic. It’s about rocking like your ass is on fire, but it’s about good songwriting too. There are only two members in the band, but they pull it off by singing, playing guitar, drums, organs and percussions simultaneously. Compared to the contemporary power rock sound, Anssi and Maria are a breath of fresh air. They sound like actual human beings making music together. Their brand of rock’n'roll sounds natural.

Choir of Young Believers

Choir Of Young Believers is a new Danish act, with great international potential. The man behind this band is the 24 year old, Danish, Greek and Indonesian Jannis Noya Makrigiannis. For many years, Jannis has moved in the underground circles of the Danish indie scene and been a part of the legendary band, Lake Placid. Since 2006 he has been working on his solo material, which has now resulted in the debut EP from Choir Of Young believers, called “Burn The Flag“.

New Band Radar

Imperial Leisure

Imperial Leisure spent 2006 commandeering and converting crowds across the country. They (legitimately) played festivals such as The Secret Garden Party and TDK, not to mention (illegitimately playing in the car parks at) Reading, En-Dorset, Fruitstock and LoveBox, as well as springing spontaneous gigs on unsuspecting but hugely appreciative crowds in shopping centres, parks, and on beaches around the UK. Last November saw the boys successfully supporting US hip-hoppers Ugly Duckling on 14 dates, a highlight of the year for all concerned. So far this year, supports have included Gym Class Heroes at their sell-out London Forum show, the legendary Sugar Hill Gang, The Beat, Sway, Skinnyman and a reunion with Ugly Duckling. Festivals for this summer include Secret Garden Party, Exeter Respect, Bristol Cider Festival, Blissfields and The Brick Lane Festival.
